Local government is often one of the sectors criticized the most for woolly communication or jargon.
Council-speak can mean even simple messages get lost in translation – not good when you’re trying to inform taxpayers how their money is being spent.
Hambleton District Council wanted to be sure its website was a valued and effective communication tool and called us in to put it to the test.
We led a workshop with senior staff from each department to establish how easy they found it to upload new information and then led consultation with the public on whether the website answered their questions or provided all the details they needed on the council’s services.
The answers from both were then collated into a detailed report, submitted to the authority’s leadership and used to develop a comprehensive strategy for online communication, incorporating the website and social media.
